ZAK
is a special zine introducing special Japanese artists.
The word special is used legitimately, each artist is chosen very carefully – work is so specific, original and made with Japanese care that it is appropriate to use the word special.
ZAK brings readers closer to Japan in a way that they certainly don’t know. ZAK leaves a printed physical statement about the inner moods and attitudes of the Japanese artists.
2000
Japan is my passion, my joy, my life stimulus.
I came into contact with Japan in 2000, when I founded the first Czech visual magazine SOAP and I approached important representatives of the art scene at the end of the millennium to participate – Tsuyoshi Kusano (Nendo), Kentaro Fujimoto (Nendo Level 1), Power Graphixx.
2003
Sometime around 2003 SOAP got into the hands of the creative director of well known & iconic Japanese brand BEAMS T.
Subsequently, I got the opportunity to design roughly 12 t-shirts for BEAMS T under my artists name Intrika.
2016
I opened in Prague super nice corner concept store called Schnirch with a gallery, where I presented the works and very limited edition products by Japanese artists,
Made in Japan stationery & goods. It was a very nice time.
2017
I presented
Masanori Ushiki’s art series Visitors for the first time in the Czech Republic, and I dare say also in Europe.
2019
I was the Tokyo Stage curator for a large design event Meat Design (+10K visitors). I invited important representatives of Japanese culture and art to the Czech Republic: Japanologist Mr. Petr Holy, creative director of Tokyo CultuArt by BEAMS
Mr. Shuji Nagai, artists Masanori Ushiki and Face Oka.
2019
I still had the idea to start publishing again a medium that would present the great works of great Japanese artists, their unceasing energy for creation.
I founded ZAK, which I curate, design and publish to this day.
2024
I was invited by a college of art to prepare and lead a two-day workshop on the annual theme of activism.
I talked about my publishing activities – SOAP, ZAK, about Japanese artists, brands, about my cooperation with BEAMS T,
I prepared an exhibition of my treasures – mainly from Japan.
Was a super great time!
And now, please, enjoy ZAK.
